Had a feeling I would get some things done today. And so I did. Many thanks to Frau El-Omar of the International Office! Although not entirely in charge of where I came, she was happy to help. Nice lady. Don't be fooled by the name though as she is German. Kinda go hand-in-hand with where she works I guess. :)
EU burger?! Yummy...
Having done that, I went to get my student ID. :). Here in Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, it's all German. But you kinda find your way right? So you gotta first take a picture (for your student ID) at a computer kiosk and queue up for the paperwork (again, but a real quick one). So I did. Take one, no picture was in the system. Take two, no picture still. But she did give a sensible solution by telling me to "save" the picture then send it (guess you can't really second guess in German eh). And that was take three + probably half an hour down the sinkhole.
Enough with that, I finally got my card. And it was great. First thing I did was to go up to the mensa (cafeteria). Topped up the card at a little machine (place the card on the reader and put some money into the feeder), went into a vast hall and got me a pork chop+mashed+veg combo. All that for a mere €2.25. Insane!! If you happen to be in Goettingen for a visit, get your student buddy to buy you lunch. Price varies for students, employees and guests.
